American Kidney Fund

Nation's leading voluntary health organization serving people with, and at risk for, kidney disease through direct financial assistance, comprehensive education, clinical research and community service programs.

Why do we exist?

Many of the Fund’s grant recipients are the uninsured, working poor who cannot afford the expensive medication and dietary supplements prescribed by their physicians.  Failure to comply with prescribed medicines and diet can result in frequent hospitalizations or death.  The enormous expense of frequent hospitalizations for these patients is born by society.  The Fund’s intervention dramatically reduces the likelihood that a patient will be hospitalized.

Today, the Fund is our nation’s leading voluntary health organization serving people with and at risk for kidney disease through direct financial assistance, comprehensive education, clinical research, and community service programs.

What have you accomplished?

The American Kidney Fund was established in 1971 to raise funds to enable one person to receive dialysis.  In 1997, the American Kidney Fund responded to a crisis in the renal community, and began paying premiums for Medicare Part B, “medigap”.   In 2004, the Fund will help more than 50,000 low-income patients disbursing $61 million in grants.

How do you help people in my community? Why do you need my support?
How can I be sure that you will use my money wisely and won't waste it? Can I Volunteer? How?
