Fairygodmother Foundation

Grants wishes for individuals 18 and older facing terminal illness. We create an opportunity for peace, closure and cherished memories for everyone involved.

Why do we exist?

Everyday, Fairygodmother Foundation works tirelessly towards one goal - to help adults (18 and over) facing a terminal illness find a sense of peace and closure by granting their final wish since all of our wish recipients have a year or less to live.  We believe that these courageous men and women and their families deserve the same once in a lifetime experience that so many other agencies give for children.

In fact, Fairygodmother Foundation, based in Chicago, IL, is 1 of only 2 organizations that grant wishes for adults.  Also, unlike most of the other agencies, we grant wishes to all adults regardless of their sex, illness, or location.

What have you accomplished?

In our ten years, Fairygodmother Foundation has granted almost 1000 wishes in all 50 states.  In 2007, we touched the lives of almost 500 people by granting 147 wishes.  Our wish recipients come from all walks of life.  They are mothers and fathers, husbands and wives, sons and daughters, and so much more.  Whether they use their wish to travel, reunite with family and friends, or use the opportunity to live out a life long dream, all of our granted wishes have been unique experiences that have given wish recipients happier endings and their families a memory to hold on to long after they have gone.

The following are some example of recent granted wishes…

Like any other mother, Jennifer, a woman in her 30s from Oregon, loved family vacations with her husband and 2 children.  When she was diagnosed with cervical cancer, Jennifer knew that she wanted to take her family on their last vacation together somewhere magical.  What more magical place is there than Walt Disney World?  For her final wish, Fairygodmother Foundation sent Jennifer and her family on a dream vacation to the happiest place on earth.  There, they enjoyed the gorgeous Florida weather, exciting theme parks, and time together as a family making memories that will be cherished forever.

What would you do if you were diagnosed with a brain tumor?  When this happened to Bill, an Illinois husband and father of 2, life was put into clear perspective.  He decided that he wanted to take his wife and children to North Carolina to visit relatives that they had not seen in years.  Bill’s wish came true when Fairygodmother Foundation was able to arrange for this trip of a lifetime.  Bill and his family spent 2 weeks in North Carolina reuniting, laughing, and reminiscing during this final dream come true.

How do you help people in my community? Why do you need my support?
How can I be sure that you will use my money wisely and won't waste it? Can I Volunteer? How?
