National leader funding the most promising research to prevent and control cancer. Clinical and community outreach programs. Free counseling line for cancer patients and their families. Distinguished scientists collaborating nationwide.
Why do we exist?
We were originally started as a place for people with tuberculosis. We treated anyone, regardless of their ability to pay. In 1953, we shifted our focus to cancer. In 1989, we were one of the first centers in the nation to devote ourselves to prevention and control of cancer. The University of Colorado Cancer Center enjoys the distinction of being one of only 5 centers in the country that the National Cancer Institute has designated as a comprehensive cancer center. This designation is possible only because AMC has an affiliation with UCCC. We are meeting the needs of patients with cancer and their families. Everyone is at risk for this potential dreaded disease so everyone should care about the important research we fund.
What have you accomplished?
In addition to funding life saving research, we also provide a cancer counseling service and have helped thousands of people. Officially called the Cancer Information and Counseling Line (CICL), this service is as close as a free phone call away for cancer patients and their families. Calling 1-800-525-3777 will connect you with a trained counselor. The colonoscopy screening we enjoy today was developed here and has saved countless lives.
