At its newly renovated animal rehabilitation facility and medical center, WARL adopts hundreds of homeless animals, provides free spay and neutering and affordable veterinary care for the low-income community.
Why do we exist?
The Washington Animal Rescue League is dedicated to assisting animals at risk in the entire metropolitan area. The League shelters lost, surrendered and abandoned animals; places animals in adoptive homes; and provides healthcare for animals, including the provision of low-cost veterinary services to the pets of the low-income community. The League encourages and provides spay-neutering to prevent overpopulation and the birth of unwanted animals. The League also operates a free program for humane education in the public schools and through our Animal Rescue Camps each summer.
The whole Metropolitan Area is served. We take in and place animals throughout the city and the Maryland and Virginia suburbs. We provide low-cost veterinary care to low-income owners from Leesburg to Baltimore -- the League's Medical Center is the only one of its kind on the East Coast.
Please visit our website at www.warl.org to find out more about the Medical Center and our adoption services.
What have you accomplished?
In the shelter, on average, we place 1,000 animals a year in loving homes. At any time, we can house 160 - 200 animals - roughly half cats/ half dogs. Please visit our website at www.warl.org to look at current shelter residents waiting for adoption.
At the Medical Center, every year there are 4000 clients. This does not include the shelter animals, who are cared for throughout their stay with us. Please visit the Medical Center page of our website to find out more about our services to the pets of the low-income population.
