Trans World Radio

Trans World Radio offers an unchanging message for a changing world by broadcasting biblically-based programming and providing follow-up to men, women and children globally in more than 200 languages.

Why do we exist?

The purpose of Trans World Radio is to assist the church to fulfill the command of Jesus Christ to make disciples of all peoples, and to do so by using and making available mass media to:

  • proclaim the gospel of salvation to as many people as possible.
  • instruct believers in biblical doctrine and daily Christ-like living.
  • model our message through our corporate and cooperative relationships.

The Global Strategic Plan of TWR is to share Christ's transforming love through mass media by responding to the global needs of youth and children, women, HIV/AIDS and health issues, oral communicators, church/leadership development and seizing strategic opportunities as God directs.

What have you accomplished?

HIV/AIDS PREVENTION
Trans World Radio (TWR), along with Kerus Global Education, has begun a unique, cutting-edge approach to HIV/AIDS prevention.  The radio/oral media component of the project will not only reinforce the curriculum and the on-the-ground training, but
will expand its outreach.

In 2005, TWR-Africa began working with Kerus in producing training material for the Kerus curriculum It Takes Courage! (ITC!) in the Xitshwa language. On-the-ground training followed with Kerus faculty training Samaritan’s Purse staff in how to teach the
ITC! curriculum.

In 2006, the training conferences expanded into Kimeru, Amharic, and Rukiga languages.  Radio production also began in early 2006.  The radio drama, also titled It Takes Courage! has been translated and adapted into the Xitshwa language and began
airing in September 2006.  The on-air drama parallels the on-the-ground training material with 30-minute radio dramas based on the 16 character traits taught in the curriculum.

TSUNAMI RELIEF EFFORTS
In our determination to bring long-lasting assistance to those survivors who lost family,
homes and livelihood as a result of the December 2004 tsunami, TWR established a tsunami relief fund.

TWR’s relief effort comprises the physical and the spiritual so that permanent change can take place in the hearts of those left void of hope in a region where there is little or no Gospel witness.

HELPING SURVIVORS
TWR set out to develop two projects in the hardest hit areas.  TWR joined with Campus Crusade Indonesia (CCC) to fund a sanitation project  TWR’s participation
included digging five wells and building five toilets.  The project was supervised by CCC and undertaken with the volunteer help of students.  The project was completed in April 2005.

Also, a cash gift of approximately $5,000 was given to a protestant church that lost 50% of its congregation due to the tsunami.  The funds given were to help the
remaining survivors with some of their basic necessities for life.

In partnership with a church, two tons of rice were distributed to survivors in February 2005.  And following a major earthquake in March 2005 another two tons of rice were delivered.

RADIO PROGRAMS
Six different programs are being produced by our team.  They include two weekly children’s programs, a weekly health program and a psychological counselling
program that airs four times per week.  Currently, the counselling program is produced
in partnership with World Vision.

RADIO DISTRIBUTION AND PARTNERING WITH OTHER CHRISTIAN AGENCIES
As of May 1 2005, approximately 1,500 radios ($52,500) have been distributed.

How do you help people in my community? Why do you need my support?
How can I be sure that you will use my money wisely and won't waste it? Can I Volunteer? How?
