National Women's Health Network

The Network improves women's health by influencing policy, linking activists nationally and providing women with evidence-based, unbiased health information.

How do you help people in my community?

Our membership of 11,000 people nationwide represents women from all corners of the United States and all walks of life.  While many of our members are women over the age of 50, we also have a number of members who are younger women - and some of our members are even men who support the important work we do!  Our Women's Health Information Clearinghouse (at (202) 628-7814) is open to everyone, members and non-members alike.  The Network also has a very diverse Board of Directors, composed of women representing many different communities:  rural, urban, East Coast, West Coast, and states in between, as well as women of different backgrounds and ethnicities.

Why do you need my support?

The National Women's Health Network is a member-supported organization.  Our 11,000 members provide the vast majority of our funding;  we're dependent upon the generosity of our members for our very existence.  Our policy to not accept funding from manufacturers of drugs or medical devices, managed care companies, or tobacco companies is central to our mission of being an independent voice for women.  If one doesn't accept funding from these large medical money-makers and one works in the health care field, there is not much money available to you.  That's why it is so important for us to have supporters like you.

How can I be sure that you will use my money wisely and won't waste it?

use my money wisely and won't waste it?
With the Network's limited resources, we do our very best to make every dollar stretch.  Interns and volunteers who work for very low stipends if they are paid at all are central to the work of the Network.  Their contributions allow us to achieve all that we do.  For instance, the Network typically has five interns at a time (doubling our full-time staff of five) who work within our Women's Health Information Clearinghouse, responding to information requests and permitting us to operate this very important program.  Our active Board members donate their time and dedication to the work of the Network.  And lastly, each year our financial statements are prepared by an independent auditor.  They are available by contacting us at:   514 10th Street, N.W., Suite 400

Can I Volunteer? How?

Interns and volunteers are a critical part of the Network, and our Information Clearinghouse in particular.  We'd love to talk to you about internships or volunteer opportunities.  They are available year round.  For more information, call our Clearinghouse Coordinator at (202) 347-1140.
