CDC Foundation

A nonprofit established by Congress to help the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention do more, faster. The Foundation supports CDC's effort to fight threats to health and safety around the world.

How do you help people in my community?

A better question is: How can the CDC work with people in your community to improve health or address a health issue? The CDC Foundation can help find a way. Three-fourths of the CDC's Federal funds are directed to community health departments and organizations. The CDC Foundation represents an entrepreneurial way for individuals to improve the quality of life in their communities by creating new projects in partnership with some of the world's most knowledgeable scientists. Some examples: The Foundation has trained public health managers in counties and cities across the South; provided medicine to a children's clinic in Kenya; motivated teenagers to exercise and improve nutrition in inner-city Atlanta; and linked health information systems in Sedgwick County, Kansas with other data networks.

Why do you need my support?

Diseases can make their way around the world in ways never seen before. The human race faces a wide range of health threats beyond diseases -- injuries from motor vehicles, bioterrorism, the consequences of tobacco. The CDC Foundation is the enterprise that responds to health threats by creating innovative new projects with the CDC by connecting people to the scientists of the CDC, building partnerships to champion CDC initiatives and leveraging resources and talent to do more, faster. While the CDC Foundation is still relatively young, it's making great strides toward realizing its vision of "improving the health and well-being of all people by enhancing the impact of the CDC."

How can I be sure that you will use my money wisely and won't waste it?

The CDC Foundation takes great pride in its ability to accomplish a lot with a little. The Foundation is small -- only 24 full-time staff members -- but it works efficiently to develop programs that can make an impact on health issues. Further, the percentage of funds spent on management and general expenses is low by nonprofit organization standards. We invite you to review our annual report to see the scope of our programs, the people who support the Foundation, and the direction of funds.

Can I Volunteer? How?
