How do you help people in my community?
Hospice means living as you choose to live. Montgomery Hospice helps you and your family to:
Participate in decisions about your care
Maintain a sense of control, usually in your own home
Reach an improved level of physical, emotional and spiritual comfort
Find answers to questions about the course of the illness
Obtain needed equipment, supplies and medicines
Receive practical assistance with day-to-day living
Learn skills to confidently provide care
Understand that help is always available -- 24-hours a day, seven days a week
Reach out to others affected by the illness and impending loss
Know that care will be provided regardless of insurance coverage or ability to pay
Why do you need my support?
As a private, community-based nonprofit organization, Montgomery Hospice and its foundation rely on community partnerships. Donations from individuals, businesses, foundations, community and religious organizations help cover the cost of providing care to those who would otherwise face the end of life with little help.
For more information about opportunities for giving, contact the Montgomery Hospice Foundation office at (301) 279-2566.
How can I be sure that you will use my money wisely and won't waste it?
Our current financial statement is available upon request. Documents and information submitted to the State of Maryland Charitable Solicitation Act are available from the Office of the Secretary of State for the cost of copying and postage.
Can I Volunteer? How?
Hospice volunteers are among its most valuable resources. Much of the difference hospice can make comes from the time, patience and compassion of volunteers.
Volunteers are drawn from every age group and background. But all hospice volunteers share a commitment to making a difference in the lives of their neighbors. Montgomery Hospice uses volunteers in every aspect of its program. Opportunities exist in:
Practical help for over-burdened families
Respite relief to allow caregivers a few hours "off duty"
Simple patient care
Reading, writing and listening
Helping the hospice office staff
Bereavement groups and telephone support
Fundraising and special events
Committee and Board participation
The volunteer coordinator can provide more information about training requirements and schedules. Please call (301) 279-2566
