Founded in 1945, LWR works with partner organizations in 35 countries to help people grow food, improve health, strengthen communities, end conflict, build livelihoods and recover from disasters. Good stewardship.
How do you help people in my community?
LWR is a two-way street. Through LWR, people in the U.S. put their faith into action to uplift the dignity and well-being of people in Latin America, Asia, Africa, the Middle East. Being part of LWR helps you grow in faith, learn from the experiences of brothers and sisters in far off places and create a safer, better future for all children.
Why do you need my support?
LWR believes in the power of the mustard seed. The smallest of all seeds when grown becomes a tree! LWR supports local initiative so people feel ownership and responsibility for a project. For example, the community provides labor and many materials needed to build a well or dig a latrine. So it takes only $50 from LWR to complete one hand-augered well for family gardeners in Cambodia or to construct a latrine in India. Five dollars provides a set of books for a literacy student in Senegal; $15 provides a breeder rabbit to a family in Togo; $25 provides immunizations for five children in India.
How can I be sure that you will use my money wisely and won't waste it?
LWR knows what works and what doesn't work in overseas relief and development efforts because of 53 years of experience. LWR has a solid track record of low overhead expenses because we take good stewardship of the resources entrusted to us very seriously. We also know that it is essential to provide the human and financial resources necessary for good planning, management, planning and evaluation of our program. We have a board which meets three times a year to review LWR's policies, strategies, accomplishments, budget and audit.
