HEAR Center

To help individuals with hearing loss or speech and language impairments integrate into the mainstream of the community by providing them with auditory and oral communication skills.

How do you help people in my community?

Approximately 15% of children and 65% of adults over the age of 65 will have some degree of hearing loss. Communication is the key.  HEAR Center participates in the Newborn Hearing Screening program, conducts hearing screenings in preschools and at community and senior centers.

Why do you need my support?

Provision of services for the hearing and speech impaired is expensive. Some children may need to have individual therapy for many years.  Over half of the operating expenses come from individual donations and your donation goes directly to supporting services.  HEAR Center strives to keep the fees for services affordable and no client is denied services based on ability to pay.   Unfortunately many insurance companies do not cover expenses related to hearing aids or individual therapy.

How can I be sure that you will use my money wisely and won't waste it?

HEAR Center operates on a very tight budget which is approved by a diligent Board of Directors comprised of two doctors, two lawyers, a CPA, a personal financial advisor, four small business owners, four hearing impaired adults and two parents of hearing impaired children.  In addition to regularly scheduled bi-monthly Board meetings, a yearly audit is conducted by an outside independent consulting firm.

Can I Volunteer? How?

All of the services at HEAR Center are performed by licensed and certified audiologists and speech pathologist, however volunteers are desperately needed to support the services.  Volunteers may be members of the Guild of HEAR, the Board of Directors, or individuals.  In addition to providing oversight and financial support, volunteers may assist with the outreach activities including health fairs and the hearing screenings as well as assisting with mailings and fundraising events.  Please contact the Executive Director at 626-796-2016 if you are interested in volunteering.
