Food for the Poor, Inc. - Poverty

Since 1982, interdenominational Christian charity provides aid to the destitute in the Caribbean and Latin America.  FFP ships food, builds homes, drills wells, provides education, medical care and skills training.  Pilgrimages available.

Why do we exist?

Food For The Poor exists as God’s instrument to help the materially poor and to renew the poor in spirit.   Our assistance efforts in the Caribbean and Central America empower local churches, clergy and lay leaders with goods and supplies to assist those who are in desperate need.

What have you accomplished?

In our twenty-two years of operation, Food For The Poor has become the 4th largest international relief organization and the 23rd largest charity in the United States. The generosity of our donors has enabled us to provide the very poorest of the poor with over 26,000 tractor-trailer loads of food, medical supplies and equipment valued at over $2 billion.  In addition, we have been privileged to build over 22,000 homes in the Caribbean and Central America, all of which have been given to truly destitute families and mothers who need safe shelter.

During 2003, Food For The Poor distributed more than $201 million in medical supplies and medicine as we strive to combat the ravages of disease and malnutrition.  This year, 2004, we are receiving over 53 million pounds of fortified, nonfat dry milk from the U.S. Department of Agriculture, which will supply two million glasses of milk a day to malnourished children.

How do you help people in my community? Why do you need my support?
How can I be sure that you will use my money wisely and won't waste it? Can I Volunteer? How?
