Earth Share

Donations to Earth Share are shared among our member groups to protect the environment, health, wildlife and natural resources. One environment, one simple way to care for it. Please visit our website.

Why do we exist?

The environment is where we live, work, learn and play.  It is our drinking water, our neighborhood parks, our children’s schools, the air we breathe and the food we eat.  We believe that if you take care of the environment, it will take care of you.

Earth Share was created by its environmental and conservation member organizations to represent them in employee workplace giving campaigns across the country and to provide them with an efficient and secure way to manage their donations.  Due to this unique relationship, Earth Share has become a nationwide network of the world’s leading environmental and conservation organizations, working together to offer an easy way to protect our air, water, land and wildlife.

What have you accomplished?

Earth Share member organizations work hard everyday to address serious threats that affect us on a local, national, and global level.  Here are just a few examples of what we are doing to protect and preserve the environment for today and tomorrow:

  • save endangered or threatened species and protect habitats, like the California condor, the bald eagle, the giant panda and their habitats, including wetlands, lakes and mountains.

One Earth Share member played a significant role in getting state legislature and the U.S. Congress to pass the biggest ecological restoration effort in world history, totaling $8 billion, for the conservation and restoration of the Everglades.

Thanks to another member of Earth Share, the world’s largest tiger reserve was established last year.  The 12,000 square-mile reserve is one of the largest in the world and will protect significant populations of elephants, red pandas and tigers.

  • reduce global warming
  • An Earth Share member has partnered with Federal Express to develop a low-emission hybrid delivery vehicle which is being introduced in selected cities throughout 2004.  The new hybrid vehicle decreases particulate emissions by 90 percent, reduces smog-causing emissions by 75 percent, and travels 50 percent farther on a gallon of fuel.

  • establish community parks, gardens, and trails for hiking and biking

One Earth Share member helped open approximately 500 miles of trail – including the 12,000th mile of rail-trail in the United States – moving ever closer to its goal of 15,000 miles.  The existing 1,225 rail-trails provide communities with wonderful opportunities for exercise, recreation, and enjoyment of our natural spaces.

  • educate children and adults about the critical value of our natural heritage and how they can help protect it.

The educational program has established wildlife habitats in schoolyards covering 48 states, the District of Columbia, the U.S. Virgin Islands, Canada, Latvia, Italy, and Tanzania.

While we have achieved much, more remains to be done.  Your support will help Earth Share’s member charities continue and expand their efforts to preserve and protect out environment, our health and our future.

How do you help people in my community? Why do you need my support?
How can I be sure that you will use my money wisely and won't waste it? Can I Volunteer? How?
