The Diabetes Action Research and Education Foundation is committed to the prevention and treatment of diabetes and to the funding of innovative, promising research aimed at finding a cure for diabetes and diabetes related complications.

What have you accomplished?
Since this organization was founded in 1990, Diabetes Action Diabetes Action has provided grants to over 200 separate research studies at universities and medical institutions across the United States.
In addition to funding basic research to cure diabetes with gene therapies and beta cell transplantation, Diabetes Action funds research that examines how nutritional and complementary therapies may prevent and treat diabetes. Examples of research funded by Diabetes Action include:
- Chromium and cinnamon and the effect on diabetes - USDA Human Nutrition Lab
- Antioxidants to improve islet cell graft function - UCLA
- Nutritional approaches to improve beta cell function – Joslin Diabetes Center
- Antioxidants to prevent diabetic complications – University of California, San Francisco
- B vitamins to prevent diabetic complications – University of California, Davis
Diabetes Action is the only diabetes organization which helped provide funding for the only three dialysis centers in the U.S. that are 100% owned and operated by American Indians. Many patients who used to have to drive 140 miles three times a week for dialysis treatment can now be treated within minutes of their homes.
