Working since 1947 to save America's endangered animals and their threatened habitat for future generations through public education, citizen advocacy, legal action and scientific research.

Why do we exist?

Defenders of Wildlife is dedicated to protecting wild species in their natural habitats. We defend wildlife against threats of exploitation, habitat loss and destruction by special interests. We restore imperiled wildlife to its rightful place in the landscape. We identify the habitat that wildlife needs to survive and we develop plans, policies and appropriate incentives to care for those places.
