Alzheimer's Association

Serving persons with Alzheimer's disease and related disorders, their families, caregivers, professionals and the local community through support, counseling, information, referrals, education, advocacy and research.

Why do we exist?

The Chapter exists to support families living with Alzheimer's and other memory loss diseases through education, information and referral, support groups, care coordination services and more.  As our society ages, the prevalence of Alzheimer's disease increases dramatically.  The Alzheimer's Association is the only voluntary organization dedicated to conquering Alzheimer's disease through these types of services and through research.  The Chapter serves nearly 40,000 families in  the District of Columbia and five surrounding Maryland counties (Montgomery, Prince Georges', Calvert, St. Mary's, and Charles.

What have you accomplished?

Last year our three offices responded to more than 12,000 Helpline information and assistance calls, offered 45 support groups, presented five major education and training programs, developed a dementia care specialist training program, enhanced our professional training offerings, and expanded our Spanish-language services. We also opened two caregiver day out programs and planned for four more. We have also worked with more than 400 families registered in the Safe Return program for wanderers.

How do you help people in my community? Why do you need my support?
How can I be sure that you will use my money wisely and won't waste it? Can I Volunteer? How?
