Alpha Kappa Alpha Educational Advancement Foundation, Inc.

We are primarily African-American women with a commitment to promote life-long learning. Scholarships, fellowships and grants to students and projects are strategies used to fulfill our commitment.

How do you help people in my community?

If you share our vision of "community" to be the globe, we help people in your community by clothing homeless children in Ohio, assisting in building affordable housing for families in New York, providing parenting skills to families in Georgia, supporting services to children of incarcerated parents in Washggton DC; providing boarding school education for orphans in the Sudan, giving scholarships to students in the DC area, all 50 states as well as in the countries of Germany, France, the Bahamas, Jamaica and the Cameroon.

Why do you need my support?

Every gift makes a difference. Even the srnallest gift when combined with others can have a positive impact on the work we do to make learning a life long process. Our minimum award is $500. This is used to purchase school supplies, books or sometimes to provide car fare for a desperate student. One thousand dollars saved a library in one community.

Our vision is to have an endowment large enough to provide emergency assistance to students and others and to expand our regular grant and scholarship programs to twice a year. We are different in two ways. First over 90% of all our income comes from our members; we receive no government funds and second we are primarily African American women with a commitment to serve all mankind. We take our commitment seriously and welcome the partnership of others.

How can I be sure that you will use my money wisely and won't waste it?

Our board of directors are volunteers who believe in prudent management. Our goal is to grow an endowment; a professional financial advisor assists withour investment decision making process. We have a three person professional staff and rely on part time help and volunteers to service our constituents. Our administrative costs are approximately 10% of our total income.

Can I Volunteer? How?

Yes, you can volunteer. We use volunteers in our office and need volunteers to help promote our scholarships and grants to students and others that are not served by high tech. Call us at 1-800-653-6528.
