The Arc of San Diego empowers persons with disabilities by creating opportunities to fulfill their personal goals, reach their maximum potential and live as independently as possible.
Why do we exist?
The Arc of San Diego, working with families and partnerships within the community, is committed to securing for people with disabilities, the opportunity to choose and realize their dreams and goals of where and how they learn, live, work and play.
What have you accomplished?
For more than 56 years, Arc has provided services to individuals with disabilities throughout San Diego County, from the Parent/Infant Program to Job Placement and Training to Camping.
Bob was born with a developmental disability. When he was a very young child he went to live in an institution and spent close to 20 years in state hospitals. Many times was told all of the things in life that he wouldn’t be able to do.
In the 1970’s that better future arrived for Bob. He left a state hospital and came to The Arc of San Diego. He began receiving vocational training at the Arc and really grew when he was given the opportunities to experience various supported jobs in the community. For the past 15 years he has held a steady job at a manufacturing company and he loves his job!
Bob continues to be a strong advocate for himself as well as for other people with disabilities. He serves as a board member at The Arc of San Diego as well as the Arc of California.
