Asthma and Allergy Foundation of America

There is no cure for asthma or allergies...yet. Help us support research and education nationwide and give 60 million American children and adults hope for a "life without limits."

How do you help people in my community?

AAFA offers a number of services to the community. It has a network of chapters and educational support groups that reach out the community to teach them proper asthma and allergy care and management. AAFA’s new website offers practical information about asthma and allergic diseases. It also features a special “Ask the Allergist” section to allow visitors to email our board certified allergist their personal questions. The toll-free information line operates Monday through Friday 10 to 4, offers another opportunity to speak with person in our office about their personal situation. AAFA also has many educational programs that are taught throughout the country to health care professionals, parents, childcare workers, and youth about how to better work with asthma and allergies. AAFA also offers two types of memberships. Professional members and individual members receive our quarterly newsletter, “Advance”. This newsletter offers tips for day to day living with these diseases. It also keeps our members updated up what AAFA is doing at

Why do you need my support?

AAFA is a not-for-profit organization dedicated to helping the millions of asthma and allergy suffers across the country. It is through the help and generosity of our members and donors that we are able to provide the many programs and services to our audience. It is only through donations that we will be able to continue our work. Between 1980 and 1994 the prevalence of asthma has increased 75 percent and is considered to be at epidemic proportions. Allergic diseases are the sixth leading cause of chronic illness in America. With your help the Asthma and Allergy Foundation of America can continue to work to alleviate these chronic diseases.

How can I be sure that you will use my money wisely and won't waste it?

As a member of the National Health Council, the Asthma and Allergy Foundation of America strictly follows their guidelines for good practice. AAFA feels that abiding by these guidelines is an important part of being responsible to our members and donors. For every dollar AAFA receives 81.5 percent goes toward programs and services. Only 2 percent is used for fundraising purposes. In a random survey of organizations belonging to the BBB Wise Giving Alliance, AAFA spends more than average (75.15 percent) on programs and services and less than average (14.31 percent) on fundraising efforts. AAFA will continue to designate as much of your money to programs and services as possible.

Can I Volunteer? How?

Currently AAFA national does not have any volunteer opportunities. However, there are often many opportunities to volunteer at chapter and educational support group level. Please call 1.800.7.ASTHMA and we can put you in touch with a chapter or support group near you.
